May 2009 - Concept Web Alliance Inaugural Meeting

Charta Software will sign the declaration of the Concept Web Alliance. This alliance is set up to enable an open collaborative environment to jointly address the challenges associated with high volume scholarly and professional data production, storage, interoperability and analyses for knowledge discovery.

Inaugural meeting

On May 7th and 8th 2009 Peter-Jan Roes and Karsten Uil participated in the inaugural meeting of the Concept Web Alliance. This alliance is set up with the following mission:

To enable an open collaborative environment to jointly address the challenges associated with high volume scholarly and professional data production, storage, interoperability and analyses for knowledge discovery.

Structured data, triples and the Semantic Web

The alliance is all about promoting and enabling the usage of structured data: specifically structured data in the form of triples: subject-predicate-object. By using this standard of the triple store, also known from the Semantic Web, data and knowledge is opened up for computer programs to analyze.

WikiData: WikiProteins, WikiProfessional and WikiPeople

The idea of using triples to store information is not new to us. In an assignment for Knewco we developed WikiData, which is better known as the end-user applications WikiProteins, WikiProfessional and WikiPeople. In the early stages of the project (2/3 years ago) Peter-Jan was a strong advocate for making WikiData a triple store. Now it is a wiki (user editable via an internet site) on structured data that also incorporates "authoritative viewpoints" and versioning.
